Now What?
- The first thing you should do is download WayStation. Get it here.
- Next. Unzip waystation.zip to a handy location.
- Open waystation.html in your web browser.
You now have your own personal WayStation! You can use WayStation to search sites by using a command trigger followed by a search term. For example, to search Amazon for "Dune" you would type am Dune into WayStation and press enter.
That's it?
Not quite. WayStation comes with a number of command triggers already preloaded, but you'll probably want to customize it by adding command triggers for your favorite sites.
To do this, open waystation-commands.js in a text editor. Inside the file you'll find instructions for adding new commands (or you can edit existing ones).
Where now?
You can use WayStation directly from your computer, or you can upload it to a web-accessible site so you can access it from any computer (Dropbox works great for this). Just make sure that the two waystation files remain together in the same folder or directory.
After getting WayStation set up, you may want to make it your homepage, or add the WayStation Bookmarklet to your browser.
By the way
WayStation works best in a proper web browser like Firefox or Safari, and Javascript must be enabled. While it will mostly work in Internet Explorer, it really doesn't look right.
WayStation is open source. Feel free to poke around under the hood, just please don't redistribute it without my permission. If you have any cool ideas or modifications, I'd love to hear about them!
